2022 Election Analysis: State of California
San Diego’s vote is mostly more conservative than statewide tallies.
In California State races, if a candidate had a “D” by their name, they usually won, particularly if they were an incumbent. While the overall makeup of the legislature isn’t set in stone, trust me, it’s going to be all Democrats all the time. Perhaps it’s time to come up with a nickname for either the corporate or progressive factions, and maybe another one for the legislators inclined to flip flop.
Through much of the state there was a “sky juice” event and ol’ Zephyr was huffin’ and puffin ', making it a nasty day for last minute voters. That may have hurt Republican turnout.
I’m going to break these results out by office, showing the difference between statewide results and San Diego totals in percentage form, since the actual vote counts are changing day-by-day. Some district elections span more than one county, so I’ve indicated the San Diego portion where needed.
I have just a few comments, since there really was little drama to report in the lead up to the election. (*) = Incumbent R = Republican Victor (Otherwise you can assume victor is a Democrat, unless otherwise indicated)
