A Not Too Serious Look at the Recall Candidates for California Governor
Part Two of an occasional series on who not to vote for. Today’s post features candidates Angelyne, David Bramante, and Heather Collins. Remember, you won't have to vote for any of these folks if Gavin Newsom gets to stick around.
Now the real work begins. The date for a recall election is set (September 14) and in a week or so the window for candidates to declare their intentions will close.
According to the California Secretary of State, candidates need to come up with 65 signatures, a $4,194.94 filing fee, and 5 years of tax returns by July 16.
All of the roughly sixty candidates are running under the assumption that California voters will say Gov. Gavin Newsom should step down. I don’t think that’s going to happen as long as turnout is sufficient.
None-the-less, all these people believe they could do a better job of running the state than the current Governor. I’m going to attempt over the next eight weeks to provide at least thumbnail sketches of these candidates.
Let me say upfront that most of them are unqualified, in my opinion. I can only conclude this is an exercise in vanity for many of these folks.
Below is what the recall ballot from 2003 looked like. Hoo-boy. Again, just vote NO on the question at the top left on recalling the Governor and you won't have to bother with the rest.
This series won't be an everyday thing. I will continue to cover bigger stories, like the prediction that Donald Trump will be returning to the presidency on August 13. Not since Y2K have I been more excited about an improbable prediction.
I’ll do a few candidates at a time with most posts, taking them in alphabetical order. Some of the better known names will get more attention if for no other reason than their political experiences are more substantive.
Here's a link back to my overview in Part One.
Given the limitations of the internet, I’m sure that corrections and updates will be required, and am happy to do so. I am attempting to publish each candidate’s web/social media addresses for those of you interested in digging deeper.
UPDATE: All my research on candidates has now been consolidated into one place:
