April 19 Rallies Pop Up All Over
San Diego Resistance Calendar
Ten San Diego area protests and rallies are called for Saturday, April 19.
On the heels of the successful protests on April 5, where millions of people turned out to protest the policies and actions of the Trump administration, this round of events is aimed at getting as many people in as many places as possible to gather. (San Diego events are listed below.)
The actions are being organized under the umbrella of the 50501 movement (50501 = 50 States. 50 Protests. 1 Movement.) In social media posts, the group says they’re aiming for participation by 3.5% of the US population—more than 11 million people—to participate. This figure is thought to be the threshold for "sustained resistance in order to make a difference."
50501 said the April 19 demonstration will be to protest against what they describe as a "hostile government takeover" overseen by the Trump administration. Veterans, Labor groups, and Immigrant Rights activists are all looking to make their voices heard.
“April 19 is not random—it is symbolic,” Matthew Sanscrainte, a national organizer for 50501, posted. “It marks the anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord, the first shots fired in the American Revolution. Now, centuries later, another revolution is brewing—not with muskets, but with marches, megaphones, and movements.
“This protest is about far more than Donald Trump, though he remains the grotesque embodiment of what ails our democracy. It is about the concentration of power, the erasure of voting rights, the war on women’s autonomy, and the corporate coup happening in real time—engineered by tech oligarchs like Elon Musk, and enabled by cowardice in Congress.”
