Assem. Gonzalez Awards Elon Musk A Deserved Fickle Finger of Fate
Five billion dollars. That’s what Tesla’s Elon Musk “earned” as the Coronavirus pandemic shut down the world. (As of April 10)
One billion dollars. That’s a conservative estimate of how much Elon Musk has received from California in the way of incentives.
Two hundred ninety five million dollars. The amount of one CA subsidy for swappable battery packs, something which Tesla never delivered on.
May 9. Tesla filed suit against Alameda County seeking an injunction against orders to stay closed. The suit alleged violations of the due process and equal protection clauses of the 14th Amendment.
One middle finger. What Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez waved at Elon Musk in response to his temper tantrum tweet..
May 18. The date Alameda County projected the plant could open with new safety standards in place. (The County thought negotiations were going smoothly.)
May 11. The date Elon Musk said he was opening his Fremont plant in defiance of the local health department.
Elon Musk is full of bull, via the Sacramento Bee:
In March, for example, he promised over 1,000 ventilators to California then failed to deliver, a fact first reported by The Sacramento Bee Editorial Board.
Earlier in March, Musk drew criticism for tweeting “coronavirus panic is dumb” in response to concerns about the virus, which has now killed nearly 80,000 Americans. Musk also predicted the United States would have “close to zero” cases by the end of April, but the number of new infections and deaths continues to soar.
After downplaying the virus, Musk tweeted that the drugs chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine might be possible remedies for COVID-19. Within days, against the advice of medical experts, President Donald Trump and Fox News were pushing the drugs as possible silver bullets to cure the disease. Subsequent medical studies have found that hydroxychloroquine does not help COVID-19 patients.
From the Washington Post:
Two workers at Tesla’s Fremont facilities, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they feared for their jobs, said they were concerned about the sudden escalation of production. One worker who reported to the factory over the weekend said people gathered in groups and there was little enforcement of social distancing practices.
Returning workers are shown an informational video about the need to abide by strict social distancing and given masks. Meanwhile, the factory began once again to churn out Model 3 and Model Y vehicles.
“Everybody’s walking around without their mask on, talking, hanging out talking among themselves,” the worker said. “It’s scary.”
So now, if the reports in the right wing media and the three quarter page ad in today’s Union-Tribune from the California Business & Industrial Alliance (A group seeking to neuter employee lawsuits for violation of labor laws) are true, somehow Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez is a bad person.
Great CNN interview with Lorena Gonzalez:
She’s made a lot of enemies over the years, and they are the best kind of enemies; the California Chamber of Commerce, anti-vaxxers, and the useful idiots for gig companies who hate AB5 and want the rest of us to pay their costs to society.
If you read the responses to her twitter feed, you’ll fall into the toxic brew of racism, misogyny, and misinformation that passes for a political viewpoint in MAGAland.
Like I said, the best kind of enemies.
Yay! Lorena Gonzalez.
