Today, justice skipped a gear. It snapped backwards.
We mourn this against the backdrop of other’s cheers. Some rage, some write, some speak, many march and chant. We are reminded that America is never defined by the silent.
So it is time to bend the arc of history once again towards justice. And justice is not a destiny or destination that comes of its own making. The lessons of this day are many. Among them . . an incomplete justice will not be a durable justice. In fact, leaving some out only guarantees that partial justice will someday crumble.
Our country was woven from threads of both virtue and vice, justice and treachery. Generations past and present have tugged at the threads of injustice. Still so many remain, and today, one returned that we thought was gone.
If the threads of injustice in this country don’t touch you now, know that inaction will guarantee that someday soon, they will.
