CA Gubernatorial Recall: It’s About Freedom for COVID-19 Spreaders
When I become Governor there will be no face mask or vaccine mandates—any in place will be immediately revoked. --Larry Elder
Because things are going swell in Florida and Texas, the leading GOP candidate for Governor has decided to go all in with the vaxxer/maskhole crowd.
He’s decided to amplify and cater to the carefully curated demonstrations being staged outside hospitals around California. These protests aren’t really about masks or vaccinations; they’re about generating fight or flight responses from conservatively inclined voters.
When people tell you who they are, believe them.
A bunch of deniers showed up at Rady’s Children’s Hospital on Monday, Recall Newsom flags in tow.
Here’s a snip from the Union-Tribune’s reporting:
Promoted on social media by a group calling itself America’s Healthcare Workers for Medical Freedom, the protest followed similar events in other large cities generally promoting the same central message: Any attempt to require vaccination is an infringement of human rights.
It was impossible to tell just how many of those who protested Monday were nurses or other health care professionals. Most declined to provide names or occupations when approached, and it seemed like attendance went far beyond the health care community.
If you read my earlier report on the planning for this demonstration, hopefully you noticed that John Strand, who was indicted for the January 6 insurrection, is the communications director for “America’s Frontline Doctors.”
So, how are Larry Elder’s gubernatorial role models doing?
Texas Gov Abbott refused mask and vaccine mandates. Now he’s begging doctors and nurses to come save his state because Texas hospitals are overrun.
Florida Governor DeSantis has put politics over children’s health by promising to punish schools for protecting students. The Sunshine State now leads the nation in kids hospitalized for COVID.
It’s also worth noting that the two governors with the biggest disasters in progress are now (falsely) beating the anti-immigrant drum.
One-third of COVID-19 cases nationwide last week occurred in Florida and Texas.
School districts in both states are openly defying executive orders aimed at preventing mandatory standards for students.
Unlike last year, the biggest threat isn’t a virus never-before-seen in humans: it’s the people who continue to prioritize their own perceived “rights” over human lives — including their own.
Feelings of anger, frustration, fear, and disappointment that have been simmering for months are now boiling over. If Larry Elder wants to turn the Recall election into a referendum on COVID, I say let him.
We who have played by the rules and suffered just as much as those who haven’t are a voting bloc looking for motivation. Saying "no way" to the wrong way by voting will be more satisfying than yelling at the unvaccinated.
According to the State of California, 76% of residents over 12 years of age have at least one dose of the vaccine, and new jabs are proceeded at a rate of nearly 74,000 a day. The most recent report on voter registration figures says more than 22 million people are eligible to cast a ballot.
Even if you are to assume that all of those who haven’t bothered to get the shots are vaxxers, it turns out they are a minority of the state’s voters. Percentage-wise, this number happens to be roughly the same as the total registration (24%) for Republicans in California.
I realize that political party affiliation and vaxxer mania aren’t necessarily the same set of people; but the point is that they are a minority.
All we have to do is vote NO on the recall...
