Does Hunter Biden’s Plea Deal Mean His Father Is Satan?
Republicans hope to spin a yarn that even supermarket tabloids won’t print.
Get ready for an all out GOP assault on President Joe Biden, consisting of rumors, unprovable assumptions, and a host of “just asking questions” statements.
There will be committee hearings where the chairs of investigative committees hope to spin the truth out of nothingness. As long as they get a headline or two, they’ll be happy.
This is happening because Dear Leader hopes to draw attention away from his own indictments and to lay the groundwork for responses to grand jury actions yet to come.
The plea deal by current president’s 53 year old son, Hunter Biden, gave House leader Speaker Kevin McCarthy and conservative hard-liners the opportunity to call the DOJ agreement a “sweetheart deal” in contrast to the 37-count indictment federal prosecutors are now pursuing against the former president.
Since Republicans have been promising to reveal the crimes of the century starring the Biden gang, I suppose they feel obliged to believe in their assessment, facts be damned.
Rep. Jim Jordan blathering about a “secret” FBI document and tapes doesn’t quite meet the charging standards of the Department of Justice. The document discussion faded into nothingness when congresscritters actually got to view it because there was no substance. And the tapes along with the anonymous informant possessing them have disappeared.
As is true with just about any accusation made by these GOP hot air generators, the opposite is the case. Via NBC News:
Like the gun charge, the tax charges are rarely brought against first-time offenders and even more rarely result in jail time, Andrew Weissmann, a former FBI general counsel and NBC News contributor, tweeted Tuesday. "This is if anything harsh, not lenient," he wrote.
I could “what-about” here, but it’s not necessary.
Hunter Biden isn’t an elected official. He’s a private citizen prosecuted by a Trump-appointed US Attorney. And –get this– he’s admitted to breaking the law.
As is the case with many plea deals, the defendant likely said many things to investigators, who settled on lesser charges in return for his cooperation. Finally, there was no connection between him and his elected father reflected in the charges.
The party-line Republican response was supposed to amplify the social media rants of Trump victimhood. The rabid caucus of the party has other ideas, however.
Colorado Rep.Lauren Boebert jumped into the fray, announcing that she would force a vote this week to impeach Biden. GOP congresslady from Georgia, Marjorie Taylor Greene galloped over to Politico to proclaim that she, too, would force votes on impeachment resolutions she’s filed against Biden and members of his Cabinet.
Privately, many Republicans are cringing, worrying that the snap impeachment votes are waaay premature and could easily turn the national focus away from allegations of a “weaponized” Justice Department to a divided Republican Party at odds over ousting Biden.
We’re looking at the possibility of Republicans risking a primary opponent by voting with Democrats against moving these impeachments forward. Republicans in disarray! Woo Hoo!

Meaningful Miscellany You Should Read
Bused from Texas to L.A.: Little food, sketchy bathroom facilities for 20 hours on the road Via The Los Angeles Times. Remember, the cruelty is the point for GOP Governors.
…they were offered their first real meal several hours later. It was military field rations, known as MREs, or meals ready to eat. Her 10-year-old daughter took a couple of bites of packaged lentils and soon after battled a stomachache.
Use of the bathroom on the bus was restricted. Passengers asked the driver to stop so they could use a bathroom at a gas station or fast-food restaurant. But they were told they couldn’t stop until they’d left Texas, Ambar said.
McAllen, where the trip originated, is near the southern tip of the Lone Star State, more than 11 hours from the border with New Mexico…

…More than 22,000 migrants have been transported across the country from Texas, under a plan hastily instituted by Abbott last year. Abbott has used the program to protest Democrats’ policies on immigration, and the state has sent buses to a handful of cities run by Democrats: Washington, New York, Chicago, Philadelphia and, most recently, Denver.

Why Ron DeSantis Keeps Losing to Trump Via Message Box. Sometimes a quote is enough reason to highlight a story.
Ron DeSantis’s biggest problem is not Donald Trump, the pro-Trump MAGA media, or the growing field of candidates splitting the non-Trump vote. DeSantis’s biggest problem is that he is Ron DeSantis. To win the Presidency, you must be able to woo people during one-on-one dinners and in VFW halls in places like Iowa and be deft enough to navigate the brutal levels of media scrutiny. DeSantis can do none of the above. His speeches are boring and poorly delivered. The guy has the charisma of a banana slug and the people skills of the Seinfeld Soup Nazi (I am generationally obligated to make this reference). And every time he appears in public, the Florida Governor makes a gaffe that distracts from his intended message

Mission Hills Library Is Keeping Its Historic Designation Via Voice of San Diego. Here’s my prediction: the property will just sit there disintegrating for years so homeless humans won’t be invading the neighborhood.
The San Diego City Council has decided that a 63-year-old library in Mission Hills is, in fact, historic. This will at least hinder if not make it impossible to turn the property into housing…
Tuesday’s hearing was scheduled after Clint Daniels, the chair of nonprofit Circulate San Diego, appealed the historic designation on several factual and procedural grounds. City staff disagreed. But Daniels also asked the Council to reconsider the vacant property’s long-term potential use.
How we got here: As KPBS reported in 2020, then-Mayor Kevin Faulconer wanted to redevelop the city-owned site into permanent supportive housing. Residents did not share the mayor’s vision. Instead, the group Mission Hills Heritage applied for historic designation and got it.
As Jesse Marx wrote last month, critics contend that the city’s historic resources have been weaponized to block new homes while showering tax breaks on the owners.
