Holiday Greetings & Updates: One Year Ago the SD Free Press Folded
How time flies. We had what will probably be the last meeting of the San Diego Free Press editorial board on Sunday night, one year and one day after we closed up shop.
Not everybody could make it. People have moved on, it’s the holidays, and a sore throat doesn’t need to be shared among friends. And we are all still friends. We kept an all-volunteer project going for five and a half years and closed it down as people found other projects.
Some housekeeping is in order. The SDFP website will remain up through 2021 for historical and research purposes. After that, the information will be archived, probably at the Wayback Machine.
The San Diego Free Press Facebook account will close down in about a month. It still gets significant traffic, but we see no reason to give Zuckerberg, et al, another chance to make ad dollars.
I encourage readers following the SDFP site to migrate (like/follow) the WordsandDeeds Facebook page. The “extra” content that’s been posted at the SDFP page will be posted there.
Eventually, I’d like to jettison Facebook entirely, but for now we’ll keep one portal open. I am experimenting with a site site called MeWe.com under my own name. If things work out, I’ll start a group there.
There are changes coming to WordsAndDeeds after the holiday; more outside content on national stuff and I’ll focus on local electoral politics on an almost daily basis through the primary.
Over the next two weeks I’ll publish sporadically. After Christmas it’ll be back to five (or more) days a week.
Merry Christmas, Joyous Kwanzaa, Hanukkah Sameach, Happy Festivus, or, as the White House ironically said this year, “Happy Holidays.”
