Making America Stupid Again with Elon Musk
Anti-vaccine activism now costs human lives on scales that exceed global terrorism
It’s COVID season again. And flu season. And common cold season.
Airborne viral infections take advantage of colder weather-driven changes in public behavior and weakened immune systems to spread their discomfort.
Over three thousand COVID-19 cases were reported to San Diego County health officials over the past seven days, compared to nearly twenty two hundred infections from the previous week.
The number of people hospitalized with the disease in the County has risen to 286 from 213 previously, according to the latest state data released Tuesday.
Just in time for the winter rush, billionaire boy wonder Elon Musk has dropped a prohibition of sharing false information about COVID on Twitter. This action, along with the reinstatement of as many as 11,000 loathsome anti-social bottom feeders, guarantees its descent into being a cesspool of misinformation.
Musk is doing his level best to distract the public, like picking a fight with Apple over an imagined threat to exclude Twitter from its retail store approved applications. Low information congressional figures threatened investigations and Fox News personalities said angry things only to have Twitter’s CEO say “never mind.” at the end of the day.
Somehow the actions of a corporation related to its image and the manner in which it operates has become a constitutional issue. Apparently freedom of speech means it's okay to facilitate infecting people with a disease as long as it’s perceived to be a globalist plot.
Musk has a longstanding animus directed at COVID restrictions. He frequently took to Twitter in 2020 to downplay the magnitude of the pandemic, and repeatedly urged ending stay-at-home policies. “I would call it, ‘forcibly imprisoning people in their homes’ against all their Constitutional rights, in my opinion, and breaking people’s freedoms in ways that are horrible and wrong and not why people came to America or built this country,” Musk said on an April 2020 call. “It’s an outrage.”
In a September 2020 New York Times podcast interview with technology journalist Kara Swisher, he said he would not get vaccinated: “I’m not at risk for Covid, nor are my kids.”
Swisher responded that many people could die if they failed to follow health guidelines. Musk replied: “Everybody dies.”
And then there’s the vaccine, which allows infected people to get a diminished version of the disease; one million Americans and 6.6 million humans worldwide have lost their lives to COVID related conditions.
The Covid-19 vaccine has led to dramatic reductions in deaths in San Diego. Roughly 4,200 died in the pandemic’s first year declined to approximately 2,200 in the second year as the vaccine became widely available.
Idiots like this guy feel below enabled by Twitter’s acceptance of misinformation:
The misinformation campaigns over COVID are contributing to the re-emergence of measles in children, as parents are convinced that vaccines are somehow dangerous, despite decades of evidence.
Peter Hotez, a professor of pediatrics at the Baylor College of Medicine and leader of the Texas Children's Hospital team applauded for developing a patent-free Covid-19 jab was interviewed by the Washington Post:
"Anti-vaccine activism now costs human lives on scales that exceed global terrorism or other established threats," Hotez concluded. "We must recognize the depth and breadth of anti-vaccine activism and its detriment to global security."
A pair of studies from 2019 revealed that getting infected with measles is even more dangerous than scientists previously believed, underscoring the importance of vaccination.
Summarizing the research when it was published, The Washington Post reported: "In addition to the illness caused by the virus, a measles infection also takes a wrecking ball to the immune system. It destroys up to half of the existing antibodies that protect against other viruses and bacteria... That means people, especially children, who get measles become much more vulnerable to other germs that cause diseases such as pneumonia and influenza that they had previously been protected against."
Hotez was also quoted by LA Times columnist Michael Hiltzik:
The truth is that a strong majority of Americans favors vaccination mandates for school, traveling and workplaces. But opposition to COVID vaccine mandates has become a litmus test for GOP orthodoxy. The risk to the public, Hotez says, is that the phenomenon will spread to other childhood maladies.
Unsurprisingly, the scientists who study and work on creating vaccines are facing increasing harassment from the same breed of ninnies that view online death threats aimed at other individuals deemed to be part of some fantastical conspiracy as political behavior.
They get their direction from politicians looking for headlines and fearful followers.
The Union of Concerned Scientists has called for protection for biomedical scientists and researchers studying climate change, since this venom is designed to have a chilling effect on research and to foster public mistrust.
We can’t have a functioning democracy if we allow those who threaten, intimidate and censor science to win.
