Nothing Happened. Nobody Did Anything. And I Have Nada to Say
Note: It finally happened. I had a story collapse. Which leaves me within a nothingburger of a column today.
In short –there is the suggestion that the battle between Fla. Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney corporation has another side to it, namely casino interests moving to capture a broader share of the Florida market.
There are a few verifiable facts, like the top political donors in the state all being gambling connected. Disney has historically opposed ballot measures favorable to casinos. But as I went down an internet rat hole to find additional sources, I hit a wall.
While I personally think this scenario has some credibility, I’m not willing to publish without a stronger factual foundation.
So today, you just get my summary of interesting headlines.
Have a great weekend.

Georgia Prosecutor Signals August Timetable for Charges in Trump Inquiry Via the New York Times. (Too many teases for “coming soon” indictments of Trump…)
The Georgia prosecutor leading an investigation into former President Donald J. Trump and his allies has taken the unusual step of announcing remote work days for most of her staff during the first three weeks of August, asking judges in a downtown Atlanta courthouse not to schedule trials for part of that time as she prepares to bring charges in the inquiry.
The moves suggest that Fani T. Willis, the Fulton County district attorney, is expecting a grand jury to unseal indictments during that time period. Ms. Willis outlined the remote work plan and made the request to judges in a letter sent on Thursday to 21 Fulton County officials, including the chief county judge, Ural Glanville, and the sheriff, Pat Labat.

Pride Night fiasco shows Dodgers no longer have the backbone to be social trailblazers Los Angeles Times column by Dylan Hernandez (Ouch!)
The Dodgers were told Thursday by the Los Angeles LGBT Center to cancel its annual Pride Night. The American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California said it wouldn’t participate in the event, which is scheduled for June 16 at Dodger Stadium.
The reason: To pacify religious and political extremists, the Dodgers scrapped plans to bestow a Community Hero Award to the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a self-proclaimed “leading-edge Order of queer and trans nuns” that uses satire and drag to call attention to sexual intolerance and raise money for nonprofit organizations that benefit underserved communities.
The honoring of the Sisters was protested by a handful of conservative Catholic leaders and bottom-feeding Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), who argued the charity group was “anti-Catholic.” The Dodgers folded as quickly as they did last year in the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres.

No, the government doesn’t have to pay off its debts like you do. Here’s why. Via Paul Krugman at the New York Times.
Just about every economist will reply that it’s misleading to make an analogy between household and government finances. But it seems to me that we often aren’t clear enough about why, perhaps because we don’t say it bluntly enough. So here’s the difference: You are going to get old and eventually die. The government isn’t.

Ted Cruz Calling For Investigations Of Bud Light Via Crooks and Liars.
The Republicans are so out of touch with Generations Z and Alpha, they have no idea what the demographic is they're targeting.
Ted Cruz cares as much ‘for the children’ as he did for his freezing constituents.
Republicans and the Christian nationalist cult of MAGA are targeting all private companies that even hint at being supportive of the LGBTQ community.
