Panic at the YMCA! It’s God vs Antifa in Santee
There are far right rallies in San Diego this week. Our region’s holy rollers, egged on by broadcaster KUSI, have decided it’s time to protect women’s rights. Southern California’s insurrectionist types are also in a tizzy. Everybody wants their 15 minutes of fame and this looks like a golden opportunity.
A video of a young woman complaining about seeing a man’s backside as she exited the showers at a YMCA has gone viral. Starting with Tucker Carlson and going down the food chain, the usual gang of media fear mongers is spreading the news, hoping to incite passions about transexual individuals existance.
The anti-mask/vax Santee Parents 4 Choice (referred to on Twitter as“QAnon Housewives of Santee”) has pulled together some of the big names in local grifting for a demonstration at the aforementioned YMCA tonight(Wednesday). Carl DeMaio, East County Posse’s Anthoney Carneval, and ministers from the notoriously anti-gay Foothills Church are all expected to appear. (Hold on to your wallets.)
The YMCA in question has decided to shut down during the demonstration, which is probably a good idea, since right wing social media accounts are in full panic mode over rumors (one social media post) that “antifa” may appear. In fact, a small neo-Trotskyist sect says they’ll be there for a dance party. And since we’ll have two groups vying for media attention, anything is possible, especially if you count the “bystanders” known to show up at protests in Santee.
Ken Stone at Times of San Diego noted that Mike Forzano, leader of a group that sprung up after the May 2020 La Mesa riots was talking trash in a Facebook video:
“Our people will be mixed up in the crowd,” Forzano said in a Facebook video. “And if these motherf—s … massively disrupt this event, we will do like we always do — and send them [effing] packing.”
Forzano, who turns 40 this weekend, noted social media posts by antifa groups calling for a counterprotest.
“Remember, 70% of Antifa in San Diego comes from the LGBT community,” he said, blasting “sick, woke [corporate] policies that cater to this ideology.”
A possibly more serious protest is scheduled for mid-day Saturday, as a Latino right wing group (LEXIT) known to be associated with the Proud Boys is listed as one of the sponsors. These groups have both participated in protests aimed at Planned Parenthood clinics in California. Social media messaging about their plans includes the claim that the YMCA is pushing “perversion,” so look for passions to be running high
For those of you unfamiliar with the nitty gritty of this latest version of “othering,” the far right has set its sights on those expressing non-mainstream views on gender identity.
What this is really all about is renewal of loathing of all LGBTQ+ people. It’s just not socially acceptable to openly gay-bash these days. In order for such a campaign to be effective it’s necessary to associate the targeted group with an imagined fear-provoking act.
In 2016 we were told that brown people in MS-13 were chopping up people. In 2020, Black Lives Matter was supposedly burning down cities.
The latest version of this hate crusade is built around the conjured up claim that LGBTQ+ people are part of a conspiracy to “groom” younger people, making them open to non-heterosexual intercourse.
As is true with nearly all of the right’s ideological drives, what’s going on is –in part– a projection of what they themselves are actually doing. Older white conservative males lust after young women, so they’re compelled to accuse others of similar actions.
GOP Congresses run up the deficit when there’s a Republican president, etc.,etc.
While partisan affiliation is not the only determinate for sex offenders, the ratio of politicians busted for various acts skews heavily Republican, as this Google document with more than one thousand instances indicates.
The “anti woke” movement on the right also has a racist component, namely the crusade against mentioning America’s ugly side in the classroom. But for now, the media bubble around the righties has decided that LGBTQ+ is a winning issue.
Lest anybody be confused about my attitude about the Santee demonstrations/counter-demonstrations, I say avoid them like the plague. It’s a trap, just like the Jan 6 DC insurrection, and they’re looking for an excuse to fight.
