Reinstatement Day for Trump Comes and Nothing Happens
FACT CHECK: Reuters and USA Today fact checks have confirmed that the former president will not be reinstated on August 13, after some people were speculating if Trump believed he would return to power on Friday.
Missed deadlines have come and gone when it comes to the rise and return of Donald Trump. #ReinstatementDay is trending on Twitter and is being ridiculed, much like TrumpCare and Trump Infrastructure Week.
We’ve passed by a couple of predictions this week; one holding that his second inauguration was going to happen, and another where evidence of voter fraud would be revealed that was so powerful the Supreme Court would just order the Bidens to pack their gear and move.
The second inauguration promise included some pure grift. People were supposedly buying tickets at $1200 a piece for an August 15 event featuring performances by Kid Rock and Ted Nugent. I don’t know how many -if any- were sold, but images of the passes were smokin’ hot among his die hard fans.
Other imaginary dates for the second coming of Dear Leader were March 4 and March 20. There was enough substance to the first date for Homeland Security to issue a warning about potential violence.
MyPillow maven Mike Lindell promised much and delivered nothing at a “symposium” held in South Dakota. He fled the stage on Wednesday, saying Antifa was coming to get him, when news broke that Dominion Voting Systems' billion dollar lawsuit cleared a key hurdle.
Mike Lindell's "lead cyber expert," told the Washington Times the “packet-capture data” promised for months proving that China rigged the election was actually bogus. Ooops.
I should note here that, while QAnon, Rudi Guiliani, and the pillow guy have all failed, one individual has been raking in the big bucks on the Big Lie: Donald J. Trump.
His political committees brought in $82 million during the first half of 2021 and have $102 million in the bank, according to federal filings. And that’s after the $12.8 million refunded to donors who complained about deceptive fundraising techniques automatically taking money for months on end.
What can I say? Grifters gonna grift, and suckers keep giving. Here’s a snip from the New York Times:
New Federal Election Commission records from WinRed, the Republican donation-processing site, show the full scale of the financial impact. All told, more than $135 million was refunded to donors by Mr. Trump, the Republican National Committee and their shared accounts in the 2020 cycle through June 2021 — including roughly $60 million after Election Day.

Having failed at overturning the election, with prospects dimming daily, some of the former president’s supporters are holding a rally to do the next best thing: canonize those arrested in the January 6th insurrection.
Trump’s 2016 campaign data guy, Matt Braynard, who leads a group calling itself "Look Ahead America," used huckster Steve Bannon's show to announce a new pro-Trump rally on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol on September 16.
Here’s Mark Sumner via Daily Kos:
What will actually happen once that September 16 date rolls around isn't clear. "Look Ahead America" is a minor group in fascist—sorry, I mean Republican—circles, and even with Bannon's help, it's not clear how many (non-indicted, not-in-jail) bodies they can summon for a repeat performance of the January 6 Capitol protests. But Braynard's group has made the deification of the violent seditionists a major focus of their actions, of late. They collected about 100 people outside the Washington, D.C., jail last month to protest the continued incarceration of a few dozen insurrectionists, demanding the jail "let them go!"
Braynard, along with Donald Trump himself, has also been a part of conservatism's attempts to glorify an insurrectionist shot dead by law enforcement as the crowd assaulted police officers and broke through a door that separated them from sheltering lawmakers.
My concern with the September rally is that it will come on the heels of weeks of astroturfed agitation blending veteran far right leaders with useful idiots who’ve bought into the anti-mask/vaxxer propaganda along with the neo-segregationist led movements fighting imagined Critical Race Theory curricula.
Those events at school boards, hospitals, and businesses insisting on a healthy workforce have become increasingly virulent in recent days. It’s not surprising to me that individuals associated with groups like the three percenters (San Diego!) and the insurrectionist Jan. 6 mob keep showing up in photos/videos of virtually all these demonstrations.
I fully expect some of the threats against individuals being expressed at these rallies will be acted on in the coming weeks. And that’s exactly this kind of energy that could be tapped for a DC rally. (Plus the weather in DC is awesome in September.)
