Strongman Unleashes Military on Peaceful Protesters for Photo Op
The President of the United States referenced the 1807 Insurrection Act—an extraordinary use of military force—as peaceful protesters at the White House were assaulted using tear gas, flash bangs and mounted troops, so he could walk with aides to St John's Church.
As Trump gave a quick speech in the Rose Garden full of tough rhetoric, explosions were going off in the background and teargas was wafting through the air.
With the crowd cleared, he walked to the front of the church, held up a copy of the bible, and that was that. Trump never entered the church. This was all about a show of force.
Off to the side, observing the maneuvers was Attorney General Bill Barr.
In a CNN appearance, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde blasted Trump for the grotesque stunt.
“Let me be clear: The president just used a Bible, the most sacred text of the Judeo-Christian tradition, at one of the churches of my diocese, without permission, as the backdrop to a message antithetical to the teachings of Jesus and everything that our churches stand for.”
“I am outraged,” she fumed. “The president did not pray when he came to St. John’s nor did he acknowledge the agony of our country right now.” (via Daily Kos)
Earlier in the day, the White House staged a conference phone call with assorted Governors, where the president berated them for not being tough enough and said he'd take action if they didn't.
I'll be adding some tweets to this as the evening progresses. Suffice it to say, I don't the President's going to get the reaction he expected.
Be safe.
