‘Tis But a Scratch: A Bit of Personal News
Since the end of April I’ve been on a quest to become healthier. In addition to eating greener, I’ve been serious about getting my ‘steps’ in daily. An app that counts (and rates) calories along with tracking exercise has worked well with my post cancer physical challenges.
The results have been gratifying: I’ve lost thirty pounds, my outlook is brighter, and I actually enjoy the effort.
On Monday, I tripped and fell hard on a lumpy North Park sidewalk. At 69 years of age, falling down is always a danger. I was lucky, I guess, to come away with mostly scrapes and bruises. When I awoke Tuesday, however, my right hand was swollen.
The medical staff at UCSD Urgent Care found a fractured metacarpal bone. Now I’m sporting a fiberglass splint held in place with ace bandages. Next week I’ll likely get a cast, good for six to eight weeks.
Ad space will be available on the cast.. Republicans need not apply.
This situation presents some challenges. Typing is one of them. None-the-less, I’ll be posting as much as I can.
I am reminded of the Black Knight scene from Monty Python’s Holy Grail. It’s probably not suitable for work (unless the boss is also into absurd British humor.)
So, yeah, I’ll keep fighting.
