Trump’s Visit to the Border Wall in Calexico Provokes a Twitterstorm
The bs was flying fast and furious on Friday as El Presidente flew into Imperial County for a look at his make believe wall.
In reality, he went to admire a plaque affixed to a section of the border wall recently replaced.
Construction for that small section of fencing cost about $18 million, began in February 2018 and was completed in October. Plans to replace that fence date to 2009, during the beginning of President Barack Obama's tenure.
Here’s how he started the day, via Vox:
President Donald Trump made two remarkably authoritarian comments on Friday, first urging Congress to “get rid of judges” — specifically, immigration judges — and later demeaning the entire media as the “ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!”
But in a sign of how normalized the behavior of this president has become, neither remark amounted to much more than a blip on the news radar.
Trump made his comment about immigration judges during a question-and-answer session with reporters before departing the White House for a photo opportunity along the southern border in California.
“Congress has to act,” Trump said. “They have to get rid of catch and release, chain migration, visa lottery, they have to get rid of the whole asylum system because it doesn’t work, and frankly, we should get rid of judges. You can’t have a court case every time somebody steps foot on our ground.”
The rest of this post is comprised of Tweets and video footage from his visit.
The Southern Border Communities Coalition gave perhaps the best overall response to his visit, via a press release:
Using border residents and families seeking asylum as political puppets, Trump has manufactured a devastating humanitarian crisis, and even threatened to create an economic one by shutting down the entire southern border, after having shut down the San Ysidro Port of Entry last November. The result of Trump’s hate-fueled antics has been a series of disasters, which President Trump has used as his latest backdrop to score political points, and siphon even more funds for border militarization.
Meanwhile, groups across the southern border region have risen to the challenge of addressing Trump’s reckless and hateful policies that seek to disenfranchise border residents, and make it nearly impossible for asylum-seekers to exercise their right to access protection. These organizations have worked ceaselessly to uphold border community values of hope, encounter and opportunity, advocating for real solutions to address the humanitarian issues at the border, and ensure that the southern border is revitalized, not further militarized.
Oh, and finally…
