Turning the Tide on the CA Recall
Why your NO vote matters more than ever!
The GOP’s candidates willing to replace Governor Newsom should he be recalled have spent the last few days giving Californians lots of reasons not to vote for them. Now is the time to make sure they hear the message.
The Kardasian effect clearly hasn’t worked its magic for Caitlyn Jenner, whose support in the latest round of polling has dropped by 50%... from 2% to 1%. She appeared on CNN’s New Day and announced she’s okay with the Texas abortion law enabling vigilante enforcement, along with saying she still support’s a woman’s right to choose.
Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, whose “I am a centrist” campaign has failed to gain traction with all but 5% of voters considering a replacement for Gavin Newsom, now has some questions to answer about money.
While it’s illegal for campaigns to pay candidates, there certainly is some interesting circular bookkeeping going on. I’m sure it’s all just a matter of getting the paperwork right, just like the Mayor did with the white elephant office building, where the payments went to a third party to avoid the appearance of enriching his biggest campaign contributor.
From the Union Tribune:
California gubernatorial candidate Kevin Faulconer’s campaign committees paid tens of thousands of dollars to a company controlled by his previous chief of staff, who has paid him for work at another company she controls.
According to state-mandated campaign disclosures, three committees controlled by Faulconer paid longtime aide and political ally Aimee Faucett’s firm at least $58,000 through July of this year. A different company controlled by Faucett paid Faulconer between $10,000 and $100,000.
The payments include money for a car lease, food, an insurance policy and campaign consulting to Agenda Setting LLC, a limited liability company that Faucett launched in January, public records show.
Businessman John Cox has proven beyond a doubt that his marketing skills and financial acumen are non-existent. “The Bear vs the Beast” hasn’t inspired anybody, even as he’s dumped millions of his own money into the race.
Assemblyman Kevin Kiley, the adorable outsider who was supposed to Make California Great Again for the voters who mostly want to succeed from the state, actually got left off a recent poll. The Trafalgar Group said it was "a mistake" to not include the state lawmaker.
Cox and Kiley are each drawing the interest of about 3% of likely voters.
That leaves us with Larry Elder, whose campaign has devolved into throwing feces at the wall and seeing what sticks.
Donald Trump may not be in office, but that won’t stop Elder --should he be elected-- from declaring an emergency order to implement the Former Guy’s HUD housing plan. No less an authority than Ben Carson, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development was roused from his slumber to bless the idea of federal camps for the homeless.
CNN reported that Elder once admitted being accused twice of sexual harassment, saying that one of his accusers was too ugly to be credible. Add that to the allegations of psychological abuse by a former girlfriend and I’d say he’s not doing a good job of wooing the women’s vote.
Former actor Scott Baio warmed up a crowd for Elder this past weekend by asking “Are you okay with multi-family low income housing next to you in the suburbs? Because that’s Newsom’s plan, if he’s not recalled.”
Did you hear that? “They” are coming.
Elder’s campaign pronouncements on Sen. Diane Feinstein, the Texas vigilante law, banning ‘evil’ sex education, and suggesting reparations be paid to slave owners have sent allies packing.
There’s one group that’s going all in on the Elder campaign: QAnon. They’re saying that if the Democrat’s ‘bot army’ can be defeated, Newsom will be recalled, triggering the return of Trump, who will promptly reveal the true horror of a Democrat-led child sex trafficking ring.
Here’s Vice News reporter David Gilbert:
"Watkins and his fellow QAnon influencers are supporting Elder's campaign, which is unsurprising given his pro-Trump stance and his flirtation with QAnon conspiracies in the past…. Some, however, have voiced concern that Elder hasn't been speaking up about the conspiracy that the presidential election in 2020 was stolen, claiming that he should be more outspoken about what they see as a massive travesty of justice. Others, however, claim that Elder is keeping quiet on this topic only until he becomes governor."
I’m assuming Larry Elder’s internal polls aren’t looking too good, because the candidate has worked warnings about voter fraud into his stump speeches. At this point, the consensus among pollsters is that Elder will draw about 26% of the vote from the 46 candidates and 7 certified write-ins.
Today’s New York Times has a story about the two rumors being bandied about as the basis for claims of fraud. They were debunked weeks ago, but I’m sure people who are taking Merck’s horse dewormer because they can’t trust Pfiizer’s vaccine will continue to spread this misinformation.

Meanwhile Gov. Gavin Newsom has brought out the big Democratic guns to close out his campaign. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar joined him for appearances over the holiday weekend, Vice President Kamala Harris will attend a campaign event on Wednesday, and President Joe Biden is expected to lend a hand before election day.
Campaigning with three of the most powerful women in Democratic politics — all of whom ran for president in 2020 — Newsom is taking it home by drawing a contrast between himself and Larry Elder.
If you’ve been paying attention, reports on recall polling are now showing a significant shift in Gov. Newsom’s favor; some have him leading by double digits.
That’s NOT GOOD ENOUGH. It’s not so much that we Californians have to love Gavin Newsom, it’s that we need to send a message to the folks who thought this recall business was a good idea.
If you haven’t voted, please do so. Vote No and Question 1 and be done. There isn’t anybody on Question 2 worth wasting your time over.
