A Dozen Key Races for Progressive Goals in San Diego
Supervisor Lawson-Remer Steps Up to the Plate
I wish I had the time to cover every race appearing on every ballot in San Diego. According to the County Registrar of Voters, 681 candidates qualified to run in this election, ranging from Governor of the State of California to the Yuima Muni Water Board.
Many of the down-ballot races have only one candidate who filed and in those cases they do not appear on a ballot, so don’t go looking for info on Stephen H. Wehr’s campaign for the Yuima Water Board; he’s already won.
Side Note: I did look up the water board. It primarily serves 350 people in the Pauma Valley. Its name comes from a creek tributary to the Colorado River, which means "Snow Water" in the Native American Language, according to the district website. General Manager Richard Williamson is pulling down a cool $263,000.00+ in annual salary & benefits.
County Supervisor Terra Lawson-Remer –who’s not up for re-election this year– is one of those politicians who realizes that their job would be a lot easier if more like-minded people were elected in nearby or overlapping jurisdictions.
So she sent out a list of worthwhile candidates (in her opinion) as a public service. I’ve quoted the meat and potatoes part of her letter below, along with a few embellishments (where available) for those interested in further research. (** means I added this part)
A Word About the Power of Donations: Most of us are inundated with political fundraising requests at this time of year. If you’re a small donor, consider the big impact you can have by contributing to one or more of these lesser-known candidates.
