No mention of the ongoing genocide in Gaza, and Biden's (and Congress's) unrelenting support? We can't afford to house our unhoused or give Americans affordable healthcare or even fill the goddamned potholes in this country, but we can send billions of dollars and tens of thousands of bombs to help Israel — the citizens of whom enjoy free college and universal healthcare — turn innocent humans to dust? His participation on our behalf will be a defining issue in the election and a key reason Biden loses. No more will I vote for "the lesser of two evils," and I know so many people who feel the same. (Cue the rabid vote-for-anybody-blue crowd to come tell me it will be my fault when the fascists take over. To which I say NEWSFLASH: They already have.) Here's where I'm at: I will not be voting for *any* candidate who isn't openly and loudly calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza. As a Jewish woman, I'm bereft at what is happening, and it is this issue that has radicalized me. I no longer believe in our system. Biden and the Dems do not care about us except for when the elections roll around. Biden is worse than Trump because at least Trump tells us who he is. Oh! And Todd Gloria? I live in LG now, but I would never vote for him again after he gave the SDPD millions of dollars following the 2020 George Floyd protests. The Dems...what a joke. Charlatans, every last one of them.

The premise of this essay is that we have to save the democracy we're living in. I say that it cannot be improved until the wolves at the door are dealt with. It sounds to me like you disagree with that premise and you're welcome to that point of view.

Squabbling among non-electoral organizations over what constitutes ideological purity makes them a waste of time from my point of view. So I'm playing on the field I find myself on. I don't need to vote for Todd Gloria because we both know the fix is already in; but there are candidates and causes I believe are worth supporting.

Yes, I'm not putting support or opposition to Gaza/Israeli conflict as a standard for decision making; what's the point? Will any Palestinian lives be saved if I don't support Biden? Will Israeli rulers abandon apartheid? There are no forces capable of existing in peace in this conflict; the only results valued are pain and suffering. And I see the only "winners" as those supporting chaos for authoritarian regimes. Maybe I'm just not smart enough.

Thank you for this essay. IMO, every single American should read it. I have share it as widely as I could. You have spelled out what is before us clearly and logically. Yes, it is frightening, yet we must remain calm, look their evil squarely in the face, and refute them. I am tempted to say that we must vote blue all down the ballot, no matter who that Democrat is. After the shenanigans in the House this year I fin I consider any Democrat an improvement over these of the Guns Over People party.
