That is a tough question but I am renewing for now.

I did not receive that letter, probably because I have been paying by check half-yearly at more than $500.

I will renew my subscription, but it cannot go on for long. I now understand how the holding company was able to destroy the newspapers they bought. Journalism, in print, was made unaffordable to most. The Fourth Estate is being destroyed in many ways. I grieve.

Bonnie - do you also get the daily + Sunday paper? I'm paying $15.95/mo for digital only access. Re your second paragraph, I'm sure you're right.

I do get daily and Sunday, and hold my breath for the next bill…which will no doubt be sent again to my husband, who has not paid a bill in years, though I have advised otherwise, mostly to make my online access MY online access, not a struggle….

I think, especially given your blog posts, you absolutely need to continue access to the UT. But do you really need all access? I have digital only access and pay $15.96. I just checked and my subscription is supposed to renew on 11/6, but I have not seen any notice of an increase in cost. I will probably renew for now because, it still is the only local newspaper with pretty full coverage of the happenings in San Diego.

I paid $247 for the year, so about $20 a month. I will miss it if they raise the cost as the local news is important to me. Locally I subscribe to VOSD. Guess it’s time to be a paid subscriber to you, I appreciate your work.

I have asked myself the same question. With the staffing diminished , I am wondering why I should support a Hedge Fund who has no interest in the news, only dollars. Do I really need them or can you and Voice of San Diego and the local papers give me the important news. I hate the idea of not having a local paper in my inbox.

How much real news minus an hedge fund, PR slant, are readers receiving?

Rob’s Rah-Rah piece on Teslas didn’t bother to mention DOJ is investigating Teslas false claims.

But for anyone interested in the skinny on All EVs — check out the media page of @Factschaser.

He’s got the goods my friends.

Haven't received a letter notifying me of an increase but I'm still paying $15.96 for digital access only for a total $191.52/yr . I pay $20/month for NY Times ($240/yr) and $120/yr (i.e. $10/mo) for the Washington Post, both basic digital access only (no special sections). No way I will pay $27+/mo. for the SDUT if they raise my rate to that level.

I don't understand why there's so much variance among the rates posted here by other SDUT subscribers although some may still be receiving print copies of the paper which would cost more.

I canceled when the new owners took over and laid off so many great journalists who have connections to our region. I can get the same news elsewhere.

I suggest canceling. I don’t like this sneaky method of getting paid whether the person is aware of it or not. I wonder how many people are subscribing and don’t know it! Local news is important but I find Times of San Diego and Voice of San Diego perfectly adequate.

I've lived in San Diego since 2004 and have paid for the local non-news exactly twice in my lifetime. Both were enticement specials lasting a limited amount of time, digital only. All in all I'm in for five bucks and at this point I want my five bucks back.

I cancelled my subscription to the U-T in 2012 when Manchester and Lynch fired my favorite sports columnist, Tim Sullivan, an award winning writer. They then promoted Kevin Acee to columnist to replace Sullivan. Most fifth graders write better than Acee. I can honestly say that I haven't missed the U-T in the last 11 years. Well, maybe the NYT Crossword, Cryptoquote, and Jumble, but that's about it.
