By Jim Miller I spent last week in the hospital after I awoke coughing and spitting up enough blood to prompt a 3AM trip to the emergency room. After a litany of tests, two bronchoscopies, dozens of IV bags of antibiotics and antifungal medications, I stopped expelling fresh blood and was released to go home and monitor the situation as my empirical treatment continues.
Dear Jim, I am so sorry to hear about your most recent health struggles. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate your willingness to share your situation and wisdom in your writing. I wish you, Kelly, and Walt the best. As always I'm sending love and healing energy your way.
Very moving Jim. Having worked in a hospital, I understand (or, at least have witnessed) the lack of sleep and loneliness patients feel. The horror, really, at times. Experiencing death of a loved one, or the threat of death of your own life certainly changes the perspective. And the worry you must have for your loved ones is perhaps the worst of all. We are all rooting and praying for your recovery Jim. For you, for your loved ones, and the fact that you are still young and have a lot more to do on this planet.
I found I could buy batches of fake sunflowers on alligator clips snd give them to caregivers and patients when I was in the hospital. Somehow all the people wearing sunflowers brought us together. I highly recommend it.
So wise and beautifully said, Jim.

Thank you, Jim, for this wonderful perspective on life and death. Good luck with all the challenges you face, and may your suffering be diminished.
