Need Some Help Voting on San Diego, California 2024 Ballot Measures?
Voter Guide for Candidates is another post on this site
For the past dozen years, I’ve gone through lists of ballot measures, provided links for users to see associated digital representations, and thrown my two cents into the mix.
In this guide are links to those articles, plus the internet connections to campaigns. In some instances, I’ll make an endorsement.
I don’t ask you to agree with me, but I do ask you to vote.
Personally, I like diversity, freedom of expression, a social safety net, and the humane use of science to advance the world. Vote like your future depends on it, because it does.

There are no campaigns for or against Prop 4. The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association has come out against this measure, but they’re not putting their money where their cheap-assed mouths are.
Proposition 5 - Allows Local Bonds for Affordable Housing and Public Infrastructure with 55% Voter Approval - Constitutional Amendment

Propositions Placed on the Ballot by Voter Initiatives
California’s Proposition 32: Something’s Better Than Nothing, I Suppose
(Let’s Consider Trading Minimum Wage for Maximum Wealth Laws)
Yes, of course. But the twisted way this made it on the ballot is concerning
Official Ballot Arguments: https://vig.cdn.sos.ca.gov/2024/general/pdf/prop32.pdf
Pro Website: Yes on the CA Living Wage Act
X (formerly Twitter)
There isn’t a No on 32 Group.
It’s being opposed by The California Restaurant Association, National Federation of Independent Business (Koch funded), California Grocers Association, California Chamber of Commerce, and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association. Each entity is spending money independently.
California Proposition 33, the Prohibit State Limitations on Local Rent Control Initiative
My Thoughts: CA Proposition 33: Deja Vu All Over Again on Rent Control
Yeah, ok, I guess

Proposition 34 - Restricts Spending of Prescription Drug Revenues by Certain Health Care Providers
My Thoughts: Just Say No to CA Propositions 34 & 35
Official Arguments: https://voterguide.sos.ca.gov/propositions/34/
Website: Yes on Prop 34
Facebook ~ X (formerly Twitter)
Website: No on Prop 34
No social media found.
Proposition 35- Provides permanent funding for Medi-Cal Health Care Services
I realize it might seem voting No on 35 could be compared to trash talking about puppies or kittens, but that’s what I’m going to recommend. Ballot box budgeting is a non-starter for me. Vote No on 35.

Proposition 36 - Allows Felony Charges and Increases Sentences for Certain Drug and Theft Crimes
I’m a solid NO on Prop 36. Don’t waste taxpayer dollars on restarting the war on drugs.

Impartial analysis posted at the City Clerk’s website: https://www.sandiego.gov/sites/default/files/2024-08/measure-c-online_0.pdf
There are arguments for and against:
Yes - Argument says it makes sense to hold one-on-one elections when most people vote
Let us vote Association: No - Argument says this is undemocratic and will enable corporate influence.
Measure D - Amendments to the San Diego Charter to Strengthen the Independence of the Ethics Commission.
Yes. Sounds like it’s a good idea.
Impartial analysis posted at the City Clerk’s website:

Other local sales taxes…Here are the localities with a cup in their hand. The ones with an asterisk (*) have been blessed by the San Diego Taxpayers Association, which makes periodic attempts to find the good in things. I don’t have an opinion on these, except to note that the shrink government to baby sized so you can drown it in the bathtub crowd has saddled Californian with a tax structure that favors the rich.

Thanks so much for posting this guide! This helped me (and family) decide on some of the props and measures that were less obvious choices. Our ballots are in the mail!
Always appreciate your ballot work. What do you think about this opposition to Prop 4 from California Chaparral Institute? https://chaparralwisdom.org/2024/10/07/please-vote-no-on-prop-4-protect-the-chaparral/
