This year's presidential race IS different from 2016. What worked for Republicans four years ago: misogyny, anti-establishment sentiment, and the promise of government run like a successful billionaire’s business are all not in play. On a fundamental level --going beyond simple hero worship-- what the Trump campaign has left in its political armory are theocrats (those who want the government run by their religious standards), racism (“they’re coming for your neighborhood”) and hyperbole driven by an ever changing list of conspiracy theories.
